Washington State drops BYU game from 2013 schedule

WSU postponed its scheduled game with BYU to 2019 while adding Southern Utah to the 2013 schedule.

After opening this season at BYU, the Washington State football team was scheduled to host the BYU Cougars next season, but WSU postponed that game to 2019 on Thursday.

Instead, WSU will play Southern Utah as part of its 2013 non-conference schedule. Washington State athletic director Bill Moos said the move was made to balance out the Cougars' future schedules. Specifically, the move will lessen WSU's 2013 strength of schedule, which already includes a road game at Auburn.

The Cougars will open the 2013 season at Auburn on August 31 before hosting Southern Utah on September 14. WSU will wrap up its non-conference schedule with a home game against the Idaho Vandals on September 21. No date had been set for the proposed game with BYU.

The second leg of the home-and-home series with BYU now becomes the first tentatively scheduled non-conference game in the 2019 season. The Pac-12 portion of WSU's 2013 schedule is yet to be announced.
