Bill Moos reaffirms support for Mike Leach in midst of investigation

Washington State Cougars' athletic director Bill Moos issued a public statement that reaffirmed his support for besieged coach Mike Leach.

These are troubling times in Pullman. The Washington St. Cougars are currently 2-8 on the season, and are winless this year in Pac-12 play with a 0-7 record.

Now Washington State has to deal with the fallout from wide receiver Marquess Wilson leaving the program and alleging abuse by head coach Mike Leach and the coaching staff on his way out the door. Wilson left practice prematurely early last week, and then officially quit the program while releasing a pretty disturbing letter that distributed the aforementioned allegations.

Washington State athletic director Bill Moos has had to deal with the Wilson situation the past two weeks, and he issued his response to the situation. Brian Floyd of CougCenter has these thoughts:

After listening to Moos, I heard no indication that his support for Mike Leach was wavering. Moos again supported Leach and the Cougar head coach's ways, saying the team needs discipline and that discipline is provided. There will be an investigation, of course, and the wheels began to turn shortly after the letter was sent – Larry Scott was in Pullman and Moos spoke with him on Saturday.

It looks as if Moos still feels comfortable in publicly supporting his head coach despite having to deal with the current bad publicity from the Wilson situation and the poor record overall on the season. The Cougars take on Arizona State this weekend.
