Washington State Vs. Colorado Score Update: Cougars Fight Back Early, Claim 7-3 Lead After First Quarter

The Washington State Cougars lead the Colorado Buffaloes 7-3 after one quarter of action. Washington State faced adversity early but responded with a big stop on defense and some balanced offense to gain the first quarter advantage.

The Cougars started out the game with a drive that ended an interception. Quarterback Marshall Lobbestael led the team to the Buffalo 34-yard line but was picked off by Colorado's Ray Polk, who returned the ball 52 yards to provide Colorado with very favorable field position. The Cougars made a stand though and blocked a 29-yard field goal attempt by Colorado's Will Oliver to hold the Buffaloes scoreless.

Washington State then used a methodical drive to poach deep into Colorado territory and ultimately score. Running back Carl Winston ran in two-yard touchdown to give the cougars an early 7-0 edge.

The Buffaloes responded with a 48-yard field goal by Oliver to pull within 7-3. Washington State will have the ball to start the second quarter.

Lobbestael has responded well since his early pick, passing for 77 yards on 7-of-11 completions. His main target has been receiver Jared Karstetter, who has 47 yards on four receptions. Winston accounts for the Cougars' lone score and has 22 yards on the ground on four touches.
