The news wasn't quite as good this evening as it was this morning for the Pac-10, as the conference's best shot at getting a team in the national championship, the Oregon Ducks, checked in at No. 2 in the initial BCS standings after jumping up to No. 1 in both major polls. Oklahoma, on the strength of its early schedule, sits at the top of the BCS, while Boise State sits at No. 3.
Two other Pac-10 teams are ranked as well: Stanford is in at No. 12, while Arizona is in at No. 18. Future Pac-12 member Utah is ranked No. 9.
For Oregon and Pac-10 fans wringing their hands over the Ducks' No. 2 ranking, Adam Jude of the Eugene Register Guard says don't sweat it yet:
Just talked to Jerry Palm of collegebcs.com, who said UO fans have "no reason to panic" with Ducks No. 2 in the BCS. Most important thing...
And ...
... at this point is their "solid" standing in both the Harris and coaches polls, he said.
