NCAA Bracket 2011: Sweet 16 Bracket Features Unexpected Matchups

Butler, Richmond, Marquette, VCU and Florida State are all still dancing. If you were able to predict a Sweet Sixteen bracket that looks like the one created this past weekend, it may be time to go buy a lottery ticket. Upsets were aplenty in the round of 32, especially on Sunday, as the spoilers rose to the occasion and knocked a few of the favorites out of the NCAA bracket.

The 2011 NCAA Tournament printable bracket has been updated to reflect all the changes, giving us a chance to break down the bracket ahead of Thursday’s games.

The Southwest region was thrown into the most chaos as three double-digit seeds advanced to the regional semifinals. Kansas, the No. 1 seed in the region, has the easiest path to the Final Four from a seeding standpoint, and can do so without ever facing a seed higher than No. 9.

In the Southeast, 2010 NCAA Tournament darling Butler is back in the Sweet 16 after knocking off Pittsburgh on Saturday in the round of 32. Butler is attempting to be a bracket spoiler for the second year in a row, but must knock-off Wisconsin to advance to the Elite Eight.

Finally, if you had Marquette in your Big East bracket pool, take a bow. The Golden Eagles are one of two Big East teams still alive in the NCAA bracket, joining UConn in the Sweet 16. The Golden Eagles will face No. 2 seed North Carolina with a berth in the Elite Eight on the line.
