Oakland didn’t make it easy, but the Texas Longhorns survived to advance to the round of 32 with a win on Friday morning. Texas took an early lead, heading into the half up eight, but never could quite put Oakland away.
Oakland made a run with time winding down in the second, outscoring Texas 11-2 over a two and a half minute stretch, capped by Larry Wright’s three to make it a five point game. Reggie Hamilton had a chance to close the deficit to three, but his three-point attempt with just under a minute to go rattled around and came out.
Texas was able to seal it at the line, escaping with an 85-81 win to move-on to Sunday’s “third” round.
Hamilton scored a game-high 25 points for Oakland in the loss. Texas’ J’Covan Brown finished with 21 points and Jordan Hamilton had to 19 lead the Longhorns.
Texas moves on to face the winner of the Arizona-Memphis games. A full look at the West region of the NCAA Tournament bracket can be found below. Check out the full NCAA Tournament bracket at SB Nation.
