NCAA Bracket Predictions 2011: Picking Wednesday's First Four Matchups

The final two “First Four” games tip-off on Wednesday night as Texas-San Antonio faces Alabama State in a matchup of No. 16 seeds and USC battles VCU in a No. 11 seed matchup. On Tuesday night it was UNC-Asheville dropping Arkansas-Little Rock in overtime to advance to the “second round” in the early game, followed by a drubbing of UAB by Clemson. So far, we’re two-for-two in NCAA bracket predictions.

Just like Tuesday night, truTV will broadcast the two First Four games back-to-back. However, Wednesday night’s matchups will feature Gus Johnson on the call. It’s in America’s best interest to root for a close game.

Let’s take a look at the matchups and make a few picks.

Texas-San Antonio over Alabama State. Because I know next to nothing about these two teams, UTSA gets the edge based on Ken Pomeroy’s rankings and game predictions. He has UTSA winning, 69-63, so we’ll go with that.

USC over VCU. The Trojans should take this one as VCU was a head-scratcher on Selection Sunday. USC is ranked 46th by Pomeroy while VCU is a surprise at-large at No. 84 by Pomeroy. Go with the Trojans to move on here.
