Jadeveon Clowney Set To Announce College Choice On Feb. 14; Has Oregon Entered The Mix?

New, 2 comments

Jadeveon Clowney, the top prospect in the class of 2011, is holding off on announcing his college choice to the world, waiting until his birthday on Feb. 14. Between now and then, Clowney has plenty of time to mull over his decision as he waits, but the common school of that is that he’s down to South Carolina and Alabama. All of a sudden, though, a report surfaced on Friday indicating Clowney may be taking his fifth, and final, official visit in the near-future, and the rumored school is right in our own backyard.

The Oregon Ducks already pulled off one late coup, stealing De’Anthony Thomas from the USC Trojans on signing day, and if the report on Duck Territory is true, they may be in line to host Clowney.

The top ranked player in the country by 247Sports, Jadeveon Clowney is now being rumored as possibly taking a visit to Oregon.

Clowney is a 6-foot-5, 255-pound defensive end from Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe and would fill one of the weak spots on Oregon’s roster.

Let’s see if this all passes the smell test.

The quiet period opened on Feb. 4, so he could be taking an official visit any time now. Clowney has another official visit to take and there’s no reason to let it go to waste, as well. Recruits love to take a field trip for free while partaking in the best each school has to offer during an official visit, with many choosing to use all five even if they’re sure of where they’re headed for college.

Does Clowney have serious interest in the Ducks? Of course it’s possible, but it would also go against everything we’ve heard so far. As far as anyone following his recruiting has been able to tell, Clowney’s interest is limited to Alabama and South Carolina, with the Gamecocks holding a slight edge down the stretch.

For now, we’ll just call it using up his official visits and touring the Oregon campus for fun, if it happens at all. Remember, Terrelle Pryor was rumored to be a last-second visit to Oregon during his recruitment, but never ended up following through and taking a trip to Eugene.

It’s possible he pulls a Thomas and reverses course, but it also seems unlikely considering everything else that’s gone on in his recruitment. Then again, you never know how things will shake out in the unpredictable world of college recruiting.

While you wait to figure out where Clowney is headed, check out his vitals and highlight video. Prepare to be amazed.
