Bowl Odds 2010: Nebraska A Two Touchdown Favorite In Holiday Bowl

New, 1 comment

The Holiday Bowl made it easy on Las Vegas after being saddled with a rematch between the Washington Huskies and Nebraska Cornhuskers. Back on Sept. 18 in Seattle, Nebraska easily dispatched Washington by five touchdowns, 56-21. In round two, the Cornhuskers are favored again, this time by two touchdowns.

Nebraska opened as 13.5 point favorites when lines became public after the bowl match-up was announced.A 35-point margin in the first time made the nearly two touchdown line logical, sure to induce betting on each side, the goal of any bookmaker.

Since it opened, the odds have moved ever so slightly towards Nebraska, with the line currently favoring the Cornhuskers by 14 points. The over/under is a bit more curious. This time around, Vegas set the over/under for the Holiday Bowl at 52.5 points. Nebraska exceeded that by itself last time the two teams met, hanging 56 points on a porous Washington defense.

Will we get a high-scoring affair again or a defensive struggle? Vegas is leaning more toward the later, perhaps expecting the famed “Blackshirts” to bring it and the Washington defense to be much improved against a familiar opponent. With freshman Taylor Martinez healthy again, Washington will have its hands full trying to slow down the dual-threat quarterback.

With two weeks to go until Nebraska and Washington take the field, the line has plenty of time to move around as action continues to roll-in. The Huskies and Cornhuskers take the field in San Diego for the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 30.
