2010 Maui Invitational: Kemba Walker, UConn Upset No. 2 Michigan State, 70-67

The Maui Invitational continues to provide thrilling games and outstanding individual performances. After an action-packed day to open the tournament yesterday, it kept rolling this evening, with UConn upsetting No. 2 Michigan State in a back-and-forth game, 70-67.

Kemba Walker continues to shine, scoring 30 points and leading the Huskies to victory after putting up 29 yesterday. With under a minute to go, Walker hit a go-ahead jumper to give UConn the 68-67 lead. Alex Oriakhi added 15 points and was the only other Husky in double figures. Oriakhi was also dominant on the glass, pulling down a game-high 17 rebounds.

Coming off the bench, Draymond Green led Michigan State with 22 points. It was Green’s desperation heave that hit the side of the iron as time expired, nearly sending the game into overtime. Durrell Summers (13) and Kalin Lucas joined Green in double figures. Green also led the Spartans with 12 rebounds.

UConn heads to the final of the Maui Invitational to face the winner of tonight’s showdown between Washington and Kentucky. Michigan State gets the loser of tonight’s matchup in the tomorrow’s third-place game.
