White Nike Elite jerseys seemed to be swarming everywhere on every Virginia offensive possession, pressuring ball handlers, cutting down passing lanes, and getting after loose balls.
Despite the expectation that UVA might have a chance to slow the Washington Huskies, it never really happened for any sustained period of time as the Huskies lead big at halftime.
The combination of transition baskets, ball movement for easy baskets early in the half court offense, and 3-point shooting from up and down the roster led to a early cushion and from there UVA simply had no answers.
Until star Isaiah Thomas missed a three with the half almost over, UW was shooting 8-for-8 from the three point line as they finished the half shooting 62.9 percent from the field. And as might have been expected on the national stage, Thomas led the team in scoring with 14 points, but Abdul Gaddy continued his assertive play as a scorer this season with 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting.
So, if this was the first test against “real” competition, UW is passing with flying colors so far.
