Sarkisian On Vontaze Burfict: 'He's Going To Play'

Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict will be benched for at least part of this weekend’s UW-ASU game, but the length of that suspension is yet unknown. When probed on the issue, Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed little doubt that UW would see plenty of Burfict this Saturday (via The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta)

The length of the benching has been left vague, but Sarkisian said he has no doubt Burfict will see action. "He’s going to play,‘’ he said. "Seriously, he’s going to play.’’

Last year’s matchup between the Huskies and Sun Devils saw a barrage of penalties for both sides, with Burfict racking up an impressive three personal fouls during the game.

Burfict’s penalties were part of a pretty crazy game in which there were eight personal foul or unsportsmanlike penalties. Sarkisian, though, said he thought UW handled it well. There were 21 penalties for the two teams combined last year, UW getting flaffed for 12.

A fine performance from the hot-headed linebacker. Burfict gets a solid A+ for effort and persistence in the face of adversity.

With the suspension cutting into his much needed playing time, Burfict will need to act fast Saturday to match his extracurricular performance from last year.
