In a bizarre twist of events, Hehnemann's second stint with the club is actually his first with the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer. The Sounders were present in the 1996 CONCACAF Champions Cup event, and that event was split between 1996 and 1997. Hahnemann had left the squad when the team began play in '97, so for all intents and purposes, he has yet to represent them in that capacity and will make his debut.
His first stint with the Seattle Sounders of the A-League in the APSL was a successful one where he helped lead the team to two championships in 1995 and 1996, and a regular season best record in 1994. In the United States, however, promotion / regulation is shared and not shared, so that his time with the team does not count as time played in the MLS.
On Wednesday, Hahnemann will finally have his day as the starting keeper for the Sounders in CONCACAF play.
