Seattle Storm guard Katie Smith became the third player in WNBA history to reach 6,000 points against the Chicago Sky at KeyArena tonight, fittingly with a 3-point shot from the top of the arc with 2:44 left in the first quarter.
Smith who entered the game only two points shy of 6,000 after scoring 26 against the Mercury on Friday. The 3-pointer gave her 6001 points for her career. She joins women's basketball legend Lisa Leslie and Los Angeles Sparks forward Tina Thompson as only the third player to reach the 6,000 plateau.
Smith is also the WNBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers made (785) and attempted (2,143).
Lauren Jackson is fourth on that scoring list with 5,915 points and almost certainly would've made the milestone had she been healthy this season. In fifth place is Indiana Fever forward Tangela Smith, who crossed the 5000-point plateau in the Fever's loss earlier today.
The Storm finished the first quarter up 24-12 after winning the turnover battle 0-5 early on.
