Seattle Sounders Set All-Time MLS Attendance Record. Again.

With a crowd of 36,242 this evening, the Seattle Sounders total attendance for the season now stands at 553,987. That surpasses the previous record of 542,600 set by Seattle last season, which surpassed the previous record of 464,145.

While it's true that the Sounders have yet to experience any real period of extended difficulty, Seattle's attendance numbers are quite staggering. After three years, you'd think the calls of "plastics" and "next big thing" would have died off. They haven't of course, but who at this point could take them seriously? Seattle has become an MLS town, as the TV monitors and neon signs of bars all over Pioneer Square and outward would suggest. The Sounders are as much a part of the sports consciousness (if not the fabric) of this town as the Mariners, Seahawks and Huskies. Who could have possibly seen that coming four years ago when the Sounders were announced as MLS' 15th team.

Not too bad, Seattle. Let's keep it up.
