Sounders Beat Kansas City 2-1

Seattle Sounders beat Kansas City 2-1 to clinch an MLS playoff spot. Seattle’s win comes on the back of two second-half goals, the first by Sanna Nyassi, the second from Alvaro Fernandez. This is Nyassi’s fourth goal in three matches, and Fernandez’s third for the Sounders.

While Sigi Schmid’s late game defensive substitution—pulling off Nyassi and replacing him with Tyrone Marshal—failed to prevent a Wizards penalty, the Sounders kept their heads in the game and managed to keep the home side from equalizing.

While the loss tonight does not mathematically eliminate Kansas City from the playoffs, realistically they have little chance. They are nine points behind the Colorado Rapids, so the Rapids would have to lose their final three games and the Wizards win all three of theirs.

Congratulations Seattle Sounders! Two seasons in Major League Soccer, and two seasons in the playoffs!
