In the 38th minute, Edson Buddle opened the scoring with a goal from about thirty yards out, turning and lofting the ball into the top right corner of the Seattle goal. Kasey Keller was caught off guard and could do nothing to stop the ball sailing past.
The match had looked evenly matched until Buddle's surprise goal.Seattle opened the match by scoring in the second minute, when Steve Zakuani buried Osvaldo Alonso's rebound. Unfortunately for the home side, the goal was ruled offside.
Since then, both teams have created plenty of chances. In the seventh minute, James Riley gave away a free kick for a foul on Landon Donovan, and David Beckham's strike forced Keller to push the ball over the cross bar. On the other end of the field, Nathan Sturgis's corner kick met the top of Jeff Parke's head, who flicked it on to Fredy Montero. Donovan Ricketts made a spectacular save to deny Montero's cheeky header toward goal.
