The NFL hands out compensatory draft picks each season when a team suffers a deficit in compensatory free agents (i.e. players leave their squad and go elsewhere as opposed to the opposite happening). The Seattle Seahawks were not likely to have that happen for them this year after signing a lot of marquee free agents last year like Zach Miller, Tarvaris Jackson and Sidney Rice, so it wasn't that shocking that Seattle ended up with no compensatory draft picks.
They weren't the only ones coming away empty-handed. The 49ers and Cardinals both missed out on compensatory draft picks. Even the St. Louis Rams barely managed one pick in the seventh round, landing the 252nd overall pick. Seattle will have to be stuck with their full allotment of picks, starting with the 12th pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
