Mel Kiper Mock Draft 2012: Seahawks Select Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

ESPN's Mel Kiper has released his 2.0 version of his NFL mock draft, with the Seattle Seahawks selecting South Carolina defensive end Melvin Ingram with their first round pick, 12th overall.

Here's is Kiper's analysis of Seattle's pick:

Seattle Seahawks. Record: 7-9. Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

Some see the Seahawks looking at a QB this high, but the value doesn't make a lot of sense for me just yet. On the defensive side of the ball, the big need is help for the pass rush. Ingram has enough size to hold up in the 4-3, and will provide an upgrade. The Seattle defense is really fast, and could become dynamic if it can generate more pressure on opposing passers. If Kuechly is still here, I can also see that pick, but the development of K.J. Wright makes Ingram a good target.

Many mock drafts at this point have the 'hawks going defensive out of the gate, and Kiper is no different. Ingram is talented enough to immediately make an impact with this team, something coach Carroll certainly will be looking for with his first round pick. Even with their glaring need for a QB, this would be a great match for Seattle in the long run.
