Seahawks Re-Sign OT Breno Giacomini

According to Brian McIntyre, the Seahawks have re-signed right tackle Breno Giacomini to a two-year extension that will pay him $1.5 million dollars in a signing bonus, with a base pay of $1.5 million in 2012 and then double to $3 million in 2013. Giacomini was due to become a free agent in March.

This is a big pay raise for the former 5th round draft pick out of Louisville, who made $600,000 last season despite starting eight games for the Seahawks at right tackle. He played well in those eight starts, considering the circumstances, and also considering he was plucked off the Packers' practice squad to fill in for a first-round pick, he exceeded expectations.

Giacomini's services may be needed to start the year with starter James Carpenter rehabbing from a torn ACL and once Carpenter is back he will provide quality depth at the position, so this signing was rather important. The Seahawks did well to lock him in for two more years before he could hit the open market.
