2012 NFL Draft: Would Seahawks Select South Carolina's Melvin Ingram In First Round?

SB Nation partner Sports Illustrated's Don Banks published his most recent mock draft and as many have been doing lately, projected a defensive end to the Seattle Seahawks at the 11/12 spot. Here's what Banks had to say:

Seattle Seahawks
Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina. Like Jacksonville and Buffalo above them, the Seahawks are seeking pass rush help, and Ingram seems a decent fit as a 4-3 end with top-15 value. The back two-thirds of the Seahawks defense grew up rapidly in the second half of this past season, but another threat up front is needed to balance out the unit.

Banks is right in that the Seahawks are likely looking to upgrade their front seven to match the talent in their secondary and Ingram is an interesting choice. The other two obvious defensive end/outside linebackers that the Seahawks have been linked to in this range are Alabama's Courtney Upshaw and North Carolina's Quinton Coples. In this mock though, Banks has Coples going seventh to Jacksonville and Upshaw to the Bills at the tenth spot, as he alludes to above. Considering those two are gone by the time the Seahawks pick in this case, it makes for an easier selection. Regardless, Ingram certainly has an intriguing skillset and he'll be one player to watch Saturday in the Senior Bowl.
