Seahawks Cut K Jeff Reed, DT Junior Siavii, Sign K Steven Hauschka

The Seattle Seahawks continued to make the cuts on Saturday. Kicker Jeff Reed was the latest casualty. Reed was a great kicker with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he was cut during the 2010 season after missing over 30 percent of his kicks. The Seahawks decided to oddly part with him, even though Reed had been performing well in practice and had been making his kicks in the preseason.

To replace Reed, the Seahawks have signed journeyman kicker Steven Hauschka. Hauschka has a pretty good leg that can serve them well on kickoffs, but his performance in-game has always been inconsistent. It's a bit of a puzzling move to part with a proven product to favor an underachiever, especially in a crucial position.

What was perhaps even more surprising than Reed's dismissal was the departure of defensive tackle Junior Siavii, who seemed like he was pushing for a place in the Seahawks two-deep chart. The Seahawks probably must be banking on Alan Branch if they're willing to let Siavii go.
