Seahawks Release WR Patrick Williams

The Seahawks have released WR Patrick Williams, per his agent. Williams was undrafted out of Colorado in 2009, signed on with the Packers as a free agent, and stayed on their practice squad all of that season. In 2010, he was released during final cuts and the Seahawks signed him to their practice squad, most likely because John Schneider was familiar with him and thought he could have potential.

He had only one catch in this preseason so far -- albeit a very impressive one, but also had an untimely drop in the game against the Vikings that would have gone for a first down late in the game. Regardless, he faced long odds on making the team in the first place while going up against Mike Williams, Sidney Rice, Golden Tate, Ben Obomanu, Kris Durham, Doug Baldwin, Ricardo Lockette, and Chris Carter. He'll likely try to catch on with another team's practice squad and may be able to contribute somewhere if injuries pile up. He's a good athlete at 6'1, 204, and might have had a chance here if the Hawks WR corps hadn't added Rice, Durham, Baldwin, and Lockette this offseason.
