2011 NFL Free Agents: Alan Branch Reportedly Agrees To Deal With Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks already swung for the fences by signing Sidney Rice and now seem to be shoring up positions of need in bite-sized portions. Late Thursday night, the Seahawks reportedly came to an agreement with former Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Alan Branch. Defensive line has been a significant area of need, and Branch would immediately bolster the talent and depth of the unit.

The news was reported by Adam Schefter on Twitter. Schefter filled in the details of the contract, which won't take too much money out of the Seahawks' coffers, all things considered.

Seahawks reach agreement with former Cardinals DT Alan Branch on a two-year, $8 million deal that includes $4 million guaranteed.

There's still one major piece of the puzzle left out in limbo and the Seahawks are actively seeking to re-sign Brandon Mebane. At last check, Mebane was in heavy negotiations with Seattle, and other major suitors were peeling-off and backing away from attempts to sign him. Things could still change in the negotiations, but a decision on Mebane is expected sometime Friday, and it appears the Seahawks are in the lead.
