NFL Free Agency Rumors: Sidney Rice, Seattle Seahawks Close To Agreement

The Seattle Seahawks may not be done raiding the Minnesota Vikings roster. On Tuesday, the first day free agents could negotiate with teams, Seattle reportedly agreed to terms with former Vikings' quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Now, the Seahawks are reportedly close to an agreement with Minnesota wide receiver Sidney Rice, a versatile playmaker on the outside. The Seahawks have reportedly been in talks with Rice since free agency opened on Tuesday.

According to Scott Enyeart, a deal may be close, but nothing has been agreed upon yet.

The Seahawks deal with S. Rice is close. PC wanted to get more explosive on O. Rice meets that need. Again, close, not done

There are multiple teams in on Rice, including the Vikings, Seahawks and, perhaps, St. Louis Rams. Rice is coming off a hip injury in 2010, making his physical all-important in any negotiations. He'll need to pass the physical and get clearance from the doctors before any contract is finalized, and it may not happen until Friday.

If the Seahawks were to ink Rice, they'd immediately add another element of familiarity to the offense for Darrell Bevell. It's becoming a theme in the short 2011 free agency period, with Bevell bringing in Jackson and offensive line coach Tom Cable bringing in Robert Gallery. The moves should cut down on the time it takes to install Bevell's offense, and may ease the transition for the Seahawks.
