Matt Leinart Agrees To Terms With Houston Texans, According To Reports

On Tuesday afternoon, various reports began to surface indicating MMatt Leinart had agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks, triggered by an ESPN report on Seattle's quarterback signings. Those reports, it turned out, were erroneous, with Leinart taking to Twitter to shoot them down while maintaining he had not made up his mind. Now, it appears we have some kind of clarity to the Leinart situation, with reports indicating he has signed with the Houston Texans, not the Seahawks.

Houston Chronicle reporter John McClain broke the news on Twitter, and explained why Leinart will be back in Houston.

Texans have agreed to contract with QB Matt Leinart. Coach Gary Kubiak wanted Matt Leinart back. Leinart told Kubiak he wanted to sign with a team that would give him a chance to start. When Seattle agreed with tavaris jackson, that cleared the door for Leinart to return to texans.

It is a bit odd, however, that Leinart chose Houston, where Matt Schaub seems to be entrenched as the starter. In Seattle, Leinart would have joined a wide-open, three-way competition for the starting quarterback job. In Houston, Schaub, Leinart, TJ Yates and Dan Orlovsky will all compete for the quarterback spot, with Schaub holding the clear upper-hand.
