Seattle Awarded NFL Franchise On This Day 37 Years Ago

It came well before my time on this Earth, but Dave Krieg's Strike Beard noted the Seattle Seahawks turn 37, so to speak, on Saturday. On this day 37 years ago, Seattle was given an NFL team, which eventually became our beloved Seahawks, and the cities it beat-out for a franchise are quite interesting.

Seattle was awarded an NFL team 37 years ago today, beating out Honolulu, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Memphis and Phoenix. #seahawksless than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

Since Seattle was awarded a franchise, all but two of the cities above have been awarded one, as well, with Honolulu still sitting vacant and Nashville serving as the home for the Tennessee Titans instead of Memphis. Hawaii does have the Pro Bowl, though that game almost disappeared before players lobbied for its return.

So happy birthday (anniversary?) to the Seahawks. Here's to another 37 years and hopefully a few Super Bowls in between.
