2011 NFL Draft Results: Seattle Seahawks Pick Another Defensive Back

With the 174th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks drafted another defensive back: Byron Maxwell, a cornerback from Clemson. Either Pete Carroll is pushing the competition angle hard, or we’ve all underestimated the need in the defensive backfield. Yes, the Seahawks needed depth, but three defensive backs in a row? It’s left many shaking their heads.

With the run on defensive backs in the late rounds, one has to wonder what the plan is and whose jobs are in jeopardy. We know Kelly Jennings may be on the outs, but is Carroll planning to rebuild the entire defensive backfield from the ground-up? It sure looks that way.
