Seahawks Add Ron Parker, Give Richard Sherman Responsibility With Walter Thurmond Out

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond is done for the season after sustaining a cracked fibula and a high ankle sprain during Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. According to Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 980 KJR, the Seahawks have added cornerback Ron Parker.

During the second quarter of Sunday's game, Thurmond ran into Seattle's Earl Thomas and Browns wide receiver Greg Little as the two Seahawks rushed over on a pass play. Thurmond had to leave the game and was replaced by cornerback Richard Sherman, who figures to take Thurmond's spot in his absence.

Parker is a rookie who spent time with the Seahawks during training camp before getting cut. He spent three games with the Oakland Raiders but didn't get receive any playing time. That could change with the Seahawks, who have a depleted secondary and will need players to step up.

The Seahawks take another blow at cornerback with this injury. Thurmond, a second-year player out of Oregon, was already filling in for nine-year veteran Marcus Trufant. Trufant sustained an injury to his back earlier in the season and has been placed on the IR.

Thurmond's replacement on the field, Sherman, is a rookie out of Stanford and will get his first real chance in the NFL in the coming weeks. The Seahawks will need solid production out of the rest of their cornerbacks as the season progresses in order to compensate for Thurmond's loss.
