The Carolina Panthers picked-up a second win in 2010, dropping the Arizona Cardinals, 19-12. The Cardinals, still mathematically alive in the NFC West to start the day, are now out of contention after losing a winnable game to the Panthers. The Panthers took an early 13-0 lead and held on down the stretch despite a late Arizona rally.
John Skelton, previously buried on the depth chart, threw for 196 yards and an interception, but failed to find the end zone. Larry Fitzgerald was easily the favorite target of Skelton, catching nine passes for 125 yards. The Cardinals never found a running game, rushing for only 47 yards as a team. The only Arizona touchdown of the day came on an odd play, as Tim Hightower fumbled forward and Steve Breaston recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Jay Feely hit two field goals for Arizona.
Jimmy Clausen managed the game well, completing 13 of 19 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown. Johnathon Stewart had a big game on the ground, carrying the ball 27 times for 137 yards. Tight end Jeff King caught one pass for 16 yards and a touchdown. John Kasay hit four field goals in what was a kicking showcase.
The Cardinals fell to 4-10 with the loss, ensuring a high draft pick in the 2011 NFL draft. The Panthers, still alive in the race for the top pick in 2011, improved to 2-12 with the win.
