The Seattle Mariners may be in last place in the AL West, but they can still wreak some havoc in the American League playoff race as they take on the Oakland Athletics Friday night at the Oakland Coliseum.
Blake Beavan (10-10, 4.64) takes the mound for Seattle, making his second career start against Oakland. The right-hander is 7-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 12 starts since a returning from a demotion to Triple-A Tacoma. Beavan allowed three runs in seven innings of work en route to a 5-3 win against the A's on April 15.
Oakland will counter with rookie A.J. Griffin (6-1, 2.80 ERA), hoping to rebound from a couple of rough starts. the A's have won 10 of Griffin's 13 outings since being called up in June, but the youngster owns a 9.00 ERA over his last two starts. He had a 1.94 ERA in his first 11 starts of the year.
The A's are currently two games ahead of the Rays and Angels in the AL wild card race.
First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT with coverage on ROOT Sports and 710 ESPN AM.
