Mariners Vs. Orioles Final Score: Seattle Opens Series With 3-1 Loss

On Monday, the Seattle Mariners continued their road trip by kicking off a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles. While Jason Vargas had a quality start, the Mariners could not muster enough run support for him in a 3-1 loss.

The Orioles scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to a Mark Reynolds double that drove in Lew Ford and a Nick Markakis home run.

The Mariners were unable to get a run across until the eighth inning, when Eric Thames doubled to lead off the inning and was driven in by Munenori Kawasaki. unfortunately, Kawasaki was thrown out at second trying to stretch his single into a double, effectively killing the last Mariners rally.

Vargas took the loss after pitching eight innings and allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks. His record falls to 12-8.
