Mariners Vs. Indians Final Score: Michael Saunders Powers Mariners To 5-3 Win

The Seattle Mariners show no signs of slowing down. They opened their Safeco Field series against the Cleveland Indians on Monday night by a final score of 5-3 to pick up their sixth straight win.

Jason Kipnis homered to lead off the game and give the Indians an early 1-0 lead. Michael Saunders answered back in the bottom of the third with his 12th home run of the year. The two-out, two-run shot gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead.

The Tribe regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning, as Kipnis and Asdrubal Cabrera hit RBI singles to go back up, 3-2. The M's were able to tie things up in the bottom of the sixth with a big Eric Thames homer.

In the seventh, Saunders struck again, hitting his second two-run homer of the game to put the Mariners back on top for good, 5-3.

The Indians threatened in the top of the ninth inning, but Tom Wilhelmsen was able to hang on for his 18th save.

With Felix Hernandez on the mound Tuesday for his first start since his perfect game, the Mariners will try to make it lucky number seven and secure the series win.
