Mariners Vs. Red Sox Final Score: Seattle Splits 4 Game Series After 2-1 Loss On Sunday

The Seattle Mariners split their four game series with the Boston Red Sox, losing Sunday's series finale 2-1 in 10 innings. Jason Vargas had a strong outing, pitching eight innings a day after the Seattle bullpen was forced to throw 8.1 innings.

Vargas struck out six and allowed only five hits, but one of those hits was a solo home run to Dustin Pedroia that tied the game at 1-1 in the eighth. It was still tied after nine, and things quickly fell apart for Seattle in extra innings. Brandon League took the mound for Seattle in the 10th, but was replaced by Lucas Luetge after giving up a double to Ryan Kalish. Luetge gave up a deep fly ball to David Ortiz, good enough to score Kalish and give Boston the game.

Ichiro Suzuki picked up Seattle's only RBI, scoring Chone Figgins with a sacrifice fly in the third. The Mariners next host the Baltimore Orioles in a three game series.
