The Seattle Mariners selected Garnet Valley High shortstop Joe DeCarlo with the 64th overall pick in the second round of the MLB Draft.
The 6-foot-1, 205 pounder is described as an outstanding all-around talent with a strong arm, which bodes well for his potential move to third base. He could turn into a steady base-hitter due to his quick bat.
DeCarlo is committed to playing at the University of Georgia so it will take some time before finding out if he joins the organization or if he goes to college. Either way, it looks like DeCarlo is looking forward to it.
"I'm definitely excited," DeCarlo told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "It's always been a dream of mine to play professional baseball. But if the deal is not right, financially, then I have a great fall-back option."
"Playing in the Southeastern Conference would be great as well," he said. "I'm trying to keep an open mind about things."
