2012 MLB Mock Draft: Seattle Mariners Take Florida C MIke Zunino

In Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com's latest MLB Mock Draft, he has the Seattle Mariners taking University of Florida catcher Mike Zunino with the no. 3 overall pick in Monday night's draft. But Mayo isn't completely certain of that selection due to rumors that Zunino may slide down some boards when the draft commences.

Here is what Mayo had to say:

The talk about Zunino sliding has never subsided, with [Puerto Rico Baseball Academy SS Carlos] Correa and then Oklahoma State lefty Andrew Heaney coming into play. But Zunino remains.

ESPN's Keith Law ranks Zunino as the no. 6 overall prospect in the draft and had this to say about the 6-foot-2, 220 pounder.

It's not a great year for college bats, but Zunino is the best one and would deserve to be highly ranked in any year. He has good hands with the ability to hit to all fields, and he should develop at least average power in pro ball. He likely won't be plus defensively behind the plate, but he's solid, and even an array of average tools could make him an above-average regular in the big leagues given the scarcity of talent behind the dish.

Law ranked Zunino as high as no. 3 on his prospects list at different points in the season.
