On Saturday night, the Seattle Mariners hosted the Boston Red Sox in the third game of a four-game series. After surrendering a lead, the game turned into an extra-innings affair that finally ended in a walk-off, 11-inning 3-2 win.
Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez attempted to injure his knee while fielding a grounder for the second out of the third inning, being lifted after 2.2 IP and immediately turning the game into a bullpen game.
Boston starter John Beckett did not allow a hit, meanwhile, until there were two outs in the fifth inning. Miguel Olivo singled to break up the no-no bid, but the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when John Jaso hit a two-run double to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead.
The Red Sox evened things up in the top of the seventh, scoring on an RBI groundout to cut the lead in half before Will Middlebrooks tied things up by scoring on a passed ball by Olivo. The Mariners managed to hold the tie and the game went to extra innings.
With one out in the bottom of the 11th inning, Dustin Ackley singled. Olivo then looped a single of his own to right field that allowed Ackley to go to third for Chone Figgins. Figgins hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Ackley to tag up. The throw was off-line, allowing Ackley to score the winning run.
The Mariners have won two of the three games in this series in walk-off fashion. They have secured at least a series split and will go for the series win on Sunday.
