Mariners Vs. Diamondbacks Final Score: Seattle Out-Slugged In Finale, 14-10

At the end of three games at Chase Field, the one thing you could say about the interleague series between the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks was that it wasn't boring. On Wednesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after winning a 10-inning slugfest, the Mariners came up short in another by the final score of 14-10.

The Mariners fell behind in the bottom of the first inning as starter Jason Vargas served up home runs to Aaron Hill and Jason Kubel that made it 2-0 Diamondbacks. The Mariners dropped a five-spot on Arizona in the top of the third thanks to RBI hits by John Jaso and Casper Wells and a home run by Kyle Seager. The 5-2 lead for Seattle only lasted until the bottom of the fourth, when Vargas again gave up a pair of home runs to Miguel Montero and John McDonald that tied things up, 5-5.

The D-backs got a big five-run inning of their own in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a home run by Justin Upton, and RBI single by Ryan Roberts and and RBI double by McDonald. The Mariners closed the gap slightly to 10-6 in the top of the sixth as a run scored on a groundout by Dustin Ackley.

The bottom of the sixth was a rough one for Seattle that ended up being the difference in the game. Montero hit a two-run single and Roberts followed that up with a two-run inside-the-park home run. All four Arizona runs in the sixth inning came with two outs.

The last gasp for the Mariners came in the top of the eighth. Michael Saunders hit an RBI single and Franklin Gutierrez hit his first home run of the year; a three-run shot to left center field. The Mariners struck out swinging three times in the top of the ninth to finally put this one to bed.
