Mariners Vs. Giants Final Score: Seattle Captures Series With Walk-Off 2-1 Win

The Seattle Mariners managed to hand the San Francisco Giants their first series loss in over a month with a big walk-off win on Sunday afternoon. With the 2-1 victory, the Mariners spoiled a brilliant start by Ryan Vogelsong to capture the series. Luckily for Seattle, their ace Felix Hernandez is no slouch either.

The Giants picked up their first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but the M's were able to even things up in the bottom of the second on a Dustin Ackley sacrifice fly. Both starters held things right there until the ninth inning. The Giants threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but Tom Wilhelmsen struck out Melky Cabrera and got Nate Schierholtz to ground out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the ninth, Kyle Seager and Jesus Montero singled to lead off the inning against Sergio Romo. Michael Saunders advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Justin Smoak singled into left field against Javier Lopez to score pinch runner Munenori Kawasaki, who beat the throw from Cabrera.

Hernandez gave up six hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out seven. Bumgarner allowed the Mariners just three hits and a walk in eight innings, striking out four. Neither starter was awarded the decision. Romo took the loss and Wilhelmsen was awarded the win.
