Mariners Will Host 'Refuse To Abuse' 5k Run/Walk In July

The Seattle Mariners is encouraging Mariners fans and local Seattlelites to register for its inaugural "Refuse To Abuse" 5k Run/Walk at Safeco Field. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 21st. Proceeds raised will benefit the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WSCAD). The run will start at 9:00 a.m. per the event's Facebook page.

According to event organizers, registration will cap at 1,000 participants.

Seattle's baseball team is taking after the city's professional football team. The Seattle Seahawks conducted their third annual 12k run/walk on April 1st. The Mariners are hoping to find the same success with its own fundraiser.

The Mariners were the first organization in the MLB to start a campaign to speak out publicly against domestic violence. The WSCADV and the Mariners released a few ads advocating against domestic violence. Here is the ad featuring Mariners ace Felix Hernandez:
