The Seattle Mariners are in first place in the American League West. It's true. You can look it up. The season may only be four games old, but the M's are 3-1 and looking great to start the year. On Monday, they'll begin a four-game series against the two-time defending AL champions the Texas Rangers and they'll be heading into enemy territory in Arlington in order to take them on.
The Rangers look almost exactly like they did last year, with the exception of new starting pitcher Yu Darvish, so the M's will know what they're up against. For Seattle's part, they'll hope that leadoff hitter Chone Figgins can keep his bat hot and that sluggers Justin Smoak and Jesus Montero can get some yardage out of the bandbox that is the Ballpark in Arlington. Balls may be flying out of the yard in droves during this series, but the M's will try to make sure the boys in teal are the one racking up the dingers.
Monday's game will begin at 5:05 p.m. PT. Hector Noesi will get his first start of the season against the aforementioned Darvish, who looked to be the real deal in Spring Training. The game will be televised on ROOT Sports and will be broadcast on 710 ESPN.
On Tuesday, first pitch will again be at 5:05 p.m. PT. Blake Beavan will make his first start of the year for Seattle, while closer-turned-starter Neftali Feliz will also make his season debut for the Rangers. The game will be televised on ROOT Sports and will be broadcast on 710 ESPN.
Wednesday will bring another 5:05 p.m. PT start. Kevin Millwood will get his first start of the year for the M's and will go up against Texas ace Colby Lewis, who tossed the only Rangers win of the season thus far and sports a 3.00 ERA. The game will be televised on ROOT Sports and will be broadcast on 710 ESPN.
The series finale will start at 11:05 a.m. PT on Thursday. Lefty Jason Vargas will try to run his record to 2-0 for Seattle. He'll be taking on fellow lefty Derek Holland, who received a no decision in his first start for the Rangers. The game will be televised on ROOT Sports and will be broadcast on 710 ESPN.
