Mariners Spring Training 2012: Dustin Ackley Leads Seattle In 13-7 Massacre Of Padres

Spring Training, as everyone knows, is largely meaningless. 162 games is a long, long season, played without the benefit of split-squad games, a healthy team, or a slew of prospects and invitees. Ridiculous numbers in March rarely translate to similar results in June, August, or October. And yet...it's hard not to read that the Seattle Mariners beat the San Diego Padres 13-7 on Monday and not feel a little glee.

As the Associated Press reports, Dustin Ackley had three hits, including a double and a triple in Monday's rout of the Pads. He also scored two runs. Although the lineup may be in flux this season, it doesn't appear to bother Ackley.

"I've hit in all different positions," Ackley said. "I feel comfortable and I'm not going to change my approach wherever I'm at. We've got a lot of great bats in the lineup. Wherever you look, we've got guys who can swing it. Getting [Jesus] Montero is going to help. He's a special hitter."

Ackley also said that he thinks the Seattle lineup is going to surprise some people. If they manage to score runs in bunches throughout the year, no one is likely to be more surprised than long-time M's fans.
