The first of the M's runs came in the bottom of the first inning, as Dustin Ackley walked and stole second, then came in to score when Justin Smoak hit a two-out RBI single. The lead was short-lived, as the A's managed three runs in the top of the third on a Seth Smith RBI single and a Jonny Gomes two-run homer.
Carlos Peguero added the only other Seattle run on a solo home run in the bottom of the third. Casper Wells, Adam Moore and Vinnie Catricala managed the only other hits for the Mariners.
