The Seattle Mariners are a couple of weeks into Sprint Training, but their top two pitchers have not seen a lot of action as of yet. Manager Eric Wedge appears to be playing it safe with Felix Hernandez and Jason Vargas, according to Larry Larue of the Tacoma News Tribune.
By the end of the day today, Vargas will have appeared in two intra-squad games and thrown a total of five innings.
Going into the opening of the Cactus League season Friday, ace Hernandez will have thrown one inning.
"We've backed it off from the 28th and 29th, and mapped it all out, and they'll both be right where they need to be," manager Eric Wedge said. "Their programs are different, but they're both thought out."
When will Hernandez pitch again? Wedge didn't say, but if he opened the Cactus League season on Friday, he'd do so against Oakland - the team he'll face opening day in Tokyo.
With some other pitching staffs already experiencing some injury and flare-up issues with their pitching staffs in the early going of Spring Training, perhaps the discretion is wise.
The official Mariners website announced that single game tickets for the 2012 regular season will go on sale beginning on March 10.
Seattle Mariners 2012 single game tickets go on sale to the public at 10am, Saturday, March 10. Tickets will be available without a service charge at the Safeco Field Box Office and at Seattle Mariners Team Stores. Tickets will also be available online at www.mariners.com.
70% of the tickets for this season will be priced at or below the prices in 2011, so this looks like it will be a great year to make it out the ballpark, if for no other reason than economically.
