Seattle Mariners shortstop Brendan Ryan has always struggled with injury issues. In two different stints, Ryan missed two weeks of action because of his back and shoulder issues
Larry Larue of the News Tribune reports that the shoulder is still bothering him.
Seattle Mariners shortstop Brendan Ryan, who spent time on the disabled list with shoulder and back problems, still feels tightness behind his right shoulder and has been ordered not to throw a baseball so far in camp.
The team hopes that, like a pitcher brought along slowly, the shoulder work he does on and off the field will have him ready to play exhibition games and start the regular season healthy.
Ryan has always struggled with injuries as a Mariner, so it makes sense that he'd take his time. It doesn't make sense to rush Ryan back from injury when he can rest his shoulder and back and wait for them to get back to full strength. In baseball, the shoulder is probably the part of the body that fatigues the most. It's always important to keep in tip-top shape. Ryan had a batting average of .248 with an OBP of .313 last year, but the Mariners are sure hoping for better production if he gets back.
