Mariners Sign RHP Brian Sweeney to Minor-League Deal

The Seattle Mariners have signed veteran right-handed pitcher Brian Sweeney to a minor-league contract today, as reported by Greg Johns and Larry Stone.

Sweeney, 37, made his major-league debut with the Mariners way back in 2003, spent some time playing in Japan with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, then returned to the organization last year, playing with the Rainiers and Mariners, briefly. He went 1-2 with a 3.16 ERA, 14 strikeouts and six walks in 37 innings pitched.

Over his four-year major league career, Sweeney has gone 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA. He's struck out 54 while walking 25 and giving up 44 earned runs in 117 innings. He was also briefly with the Diamondbacks and Mets last season, and he'll
