NFL Power Rankings: Seahawks bandwagon gets bigger with playoffs looming

The Seahawks are in the top 10 of most national power rankings, and are ending up quite high on some of them.

USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are riding high on the NFL power rankings as they head to the playoffs to take on the Washington Redskins.

The Seahawks have been one of the NFL's hottest teams as of late, ending the season with five straight wins ,including blowouts of the Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills.

Fox Sports has the Seahawks lowest out of most of the major publication, placing them at ninth. They also aren't very big on the Seahawks' post-season chances, citing the difficulty of playing on the road in Washington.

Pete Carroll gets my vote for Coach of the Year for what he has done with the Seahawks this season, but I think they go one and done in the playoffs. Washington is a tough place to play, especially for a team that has had their struggles on the road this season.

ESPN moved the Seahawks up in their rankings one spot to fifth place, also citing the Seahawks' road worries as a problem for their playoff hopes. The Seahawks last won a playoff game in the road back in 1983.

Joel Thorman of SB Nation is most excited about the Seahawks, also moving them up one spot to the second-best team in the NFL.

Some fans will adopt a team for the playoffs. Since my team is out of the playoffs, I'm adopting the Seahawks. Over the past three weeks this is the most entertaining team in the NFL.

Oddshark's measuring tools kept the Seahawks ranked third again this week, although interestingly they were leapfrogged by the San Francisco 49ers -- a team the Seahawks just beat two weeks ago.

The one thing consistent about most of the NFL power rankings out there is that the Denver Broncos maintained their hold on the first place position. Winning 11 games in a row tends to have such consequences.
