Sean Mannion had a huge game on Saturday night, throwing for 433 yards and three touchdowns against Arizona's secondary.

The Oregon St. Beavers knew Sean Mannion was going to need to come up big against the Arizona Wildcats this weekend if they hoped to win. 433 yards and three touchdowns later, the Beavers are now 3-0 this season and moving up in the polls.

Mannion was the star of the game throughout. It seemed like whenever Oregon State needed a big play to be made, the sophomore quarterback would deliver a crisp pass or gun a ball deep down the field. He led the Beavers on numerous lengthy drives, including a masterful two-minute drive in the closing moments as his team trailed late.

SB Nation's Oregon State blog, Building The Dam, took a look at why Mannion was so successful this weekend in Tucson.

It became apparent early that Wheaton and Brandin Cooks, who came up with 149 yards on 9 catches, were too fast for the Arizona secondary. Both ran out of what was often pretty good initial coverage again and again, for big play after big play. And when the 'Cats switched up their coverages in the second half, Wheaton and Cooks were still able to find openings, and extend plays.

It made it much easier for Mannion to direct long scoring drives, that covered 83, 84, 77, and in the fourth quarter, 86 and 75 yards, both of which when the Beavers were behind and needing a touchdown.

Mannion and the Beavers will have to refocus in a hurry as they begin preparing for Mike Leach and the Washington St. Cougars. Given their play in recent weeks, OSU should enter the game next weekend as heavy favorites.

The No. 18 Oregon State Beavers and Arizona Wildcats were caught in a back-and-forth duel at Arizona Stadium Saturday night, but a late touchdown pass from Sean Mannion would keep the Beavers undefeated this season by the score of 38-35.

Oregon State (3-0, 1-1 Pac-12) took an early 17-0 lead, though Arizona charged back in the second half to take the lead by the score of 21-17 midway through the third quarter. Both teams would trade scores until the end of the game, when Beavers head coach Mike Riley pulled a quick one on the Wildcats.

After an impressive drive, Mannion found Connor Hamlett for a nine-yard pass with 1:09 left in the game to seal the Wildcats fate and remain undefeated. Mannion was 29-45 for a career-high 433 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Running back Storm Woods had a great day as well, carrying the ball 29 times for 161 yards and a touchdown.

The Beavers now prepare for their meeting with the Washington State Cougars next week from Reser Stadium in Corvallis.

Oregon State knows that Arizona is down. Last weekend, the Wildcats were pummeled by another Oregon team 49-0. Looking to captialize upon that beat-down, OSU has attacked 'Zona where they seem to be most vulnerable - in the air. On the back of quarterback Sean Mannion and his 278 yards passing, the Beavers are up on the Wildcats 17-7 at the half.

Normally a double threat, 'Zona quarterback Matt Scott has been held to negative-three yards rushing. He is second on the team in carries behind running back Ka'Deem Carey with 53 yards.

Markus Wheaton has proven to be one of Mannion's favorite targets. By halftime, Wheaton had amassed 103 yards receiving on seven carries. The duo have hooked up for one touchdown so far. The rest of the receiving core is in double digit yards.

Wheaton, Mannion and the rest of the offense are taking advantage of the weak downfield coverage presented by Arizona. They should be expecting some changes to that group from 'Zona head coach Rick Rodriguez.

The Oregon State Beavers and Arizona Wildcats were scoreless until the Beavers were able to score a touchdown late in the first quarter, giving the team a 7-0 lead over the Wildcats after the first quarter of play.

The Beavers and Wildcats each received three possessions in the first quarter, but it was the Beavers who were able to put points on the board with one of the six drives between the two teams.

With 2:05 remaining in the first quarter, sophomore quarterback Sean Mannion connected with Markus Wheaton on a two-yard pass for a touchdown. Beavers kicker Trevor Romaine successfully tacked on the extra point, capping off a nine play, 83-yard drive that ended in a touchdown.

For the Beavers, freshman running back Storm Woods ran for 41 yards in the first quarter and already has nine carries on the night. Meanwhile, the defense is holding Wildcats quarterback Matt Scott to 30 yards on 5-for-10 passing.

The Beavers look to open a season 3-0 for the first time in the last 10 years as they travel to face the Arizona Wildcats.

The No. 18 Oregon State Beavers finally get to enjoy the 2012 season as a ranked team, as they hit the road to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday.

The Beavers' first game against Nicholls State was postponed. They went on to upset then-No. 13 Wisconsin and then-No. 19 UCLA to vault into the rankings at No. 18 this week. They'll be facing a Wildcat team quite eager to wash the terrible Pac-12 opening taste out of their mouth. Arizona's potent offense was pushed to the side as the team was absolutely steamrolled against Oregon in a 49-0 loss in Week 4.

It'll be a matchup of two of the better quarterbacks not named Matt Barkley in the Pac-12. The Beavers average 327.5 passing yards per game, good for 12th best in the nation. The Wildcats are one step higher, 11th in the nation with 329 yards per game.

Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion suffered a minor shoulder injury in the victory over UCLA. He didn't practice on Monday but will be ready to go on Saturday.

It will be a stiff test for the Wildcats who are looking to get back on track in the Pac-12. Oregon State's rush defense is second-best in the nation at just 53.5 yards per game. They held UCLA's Johnathan Franklin, the top Pac-12 rusher, to just 45 yards last week.

If the Beavers win, it will be the first time Oregon State has started 3-0 in the last 10 seasons.

Game time/day: 7 p.m. PT, Saturday, Sept. 29.

Location: Arizona Stadium, Tucson.

TV: Pac-12 Network.

Odds: Arizona opened the game favored by 3 points.
