The entire Huskies squad is getting grades to take home to mom after their 17-13 win over the Stanford Cardinal on Thursday.

The UW Dawg Pound doled out close to straight A'ss for the Washington Huskies after their 17-13 victory over No. 8 Stanford Cardinal on Thursday.

It is easy to see why everyone is a bit excited. It was the first UW victory over Stanford since 2007 and their first over a top-10 ranked opponent since 2009.

Based on the nine categories available, the UW Dawg Pound gave out A's to everyone except for the offensive line. The cumulative GPA for the team is 3.89 - more than enough for magna cum laude honors.

The o-line took a bit of a hit because injuries have left it a bit undermanned. The Dawg Pound said they did what they needed to get done for the running game, but barely did enough to help quarterback Keith Price to the victory saying, "Pass protections wasn't what it needed to be but this was the Stanford front seven they were playing against."

The Dawg Pound had rave reviews for Price, whose final stats weren't all that earth shattering. Then again, in a game where only 30 total points are scored, throwing for 177 yards and one TD is more of the norm. Price got extra props for keeping his head steady after throwing a bad pick six.

Price gave his team a chance to win last night by not panicking or making the type of mistakes that USC's Matt Barkley had done ten days earlier. He kept bouncing back after every punishing hit (there were too many to count) and made the plays he had to when the game was on the line. A lot of guys might have folded after that ugly pick six but Price charged back out there and led his team to victory.

Running back Bishop Sankey was probably the most deserving of all the A's the Dawg Pound handed out. Sankey finished with 144 yards on 20 carries and a crucial 61-yard touchdown run.

A few of the Husky players reflect on their 17-13 victory over Stanford, the first time UW has beaten the Cardinal since 2007.

Todd Dybas of the News Tribune caught up with a few of the Washington Husky players to get their take on their 17-13 victory over the Stanford Cardinal.

Senior fullback Jonathan Amosa was especially grateful for the win as the Huskies haven't defeated Stanford since 2007. Prior to the game, the Cardinal had absolutely rolled over the Huskies in the past two seasons - outscoring them 106-21 in two blowout wins.

"I'm a senior, this is my last year and I have never beaten Stanford until now. Words can't explain it. For all the guys who left and all the guys that are here now, you can only imagine how it feels to take down a #10 team in all black on ESPN with all the fans rushing the field, it does not get any better than that," Amosa said.

The Huskies have adopted the mantra of the 12th man as they rent out the Seattle Seahawks home turf while Husky Stadium gets remodeled this year. The fans rushed the field to celebrate with the Huskies after UW downed its first top-10 ranked opponent since upending a third-ranked USC Trojan team in 2009.

"The crowd brought great energy. We feed off of that energy, and they were great tonight. They helped us a ton on third down, and that helped us in a huge way tonight. That is a main reason why we won the game," junior safety Sean Parker said.

It wasn't a pretty win by any stretch of the word. The Huskies went into half time only trailing 6-3 and held the Stanford to only 235 total yards on the game to open up Pac-12 play 1-0. Parker says that the win will drive the Huskies as they take on the No. 2 Oregon Ducks in Eugene, OR after a bye week this weekend.

"It feels good. They are a good team, but for us to come out and play this way just feels so good. It helps the team and brings up our morale for the next game."

The Huskies get a little bit of time to revel in their hard fought, grind it out win 17-13 win over Stanford as they have a bye week.

The Washington Huskies had to grind out their 17-13 victory over No. 8 Stanford Cardinal, which seemed to surprise everyone in the nation but the Huskies and their loyal followers.

The Huskies hadn't beaten a top-10 team since 2009 when they defeated a third ranked USC Trojan team. But amongst the echo of cheers that Century Link Field is known for and the Husky faithful rabidly cheering a beleaguered offense on, the Huskies pulled out a win to open up Pac-12 play.

"Part of me thinks that our fans probably appreciate these types of games more so than 48-45. There is something gritty about our mentality here. This was a black-and-blue type of game and I think our fans appreciated that," head coach Steve Sarkisian told ESPN.com.

He let the Huskies celebrate a little bit when the fans stormed the field, but Sarkisian stayed grounded with the win. It wasn't how prettily it was accomplished, just that another number was notched into the win column.

"I just wanted to be 1-0 and start off on the right foot. And how we did it and the final score didn't matter to me. It was more of playing the way we were capable of playing, playing disciplined football," Sarkisian said.

It wasn't a pretty game for either offense. Husky quarterback Keith Price only finished with 177 yards and one touchdown and interception a piece. But after achieving his "ultimate goal" of starting out 1-0 in Pac-12, the Huskies get a week off before heading down to Eugene, OR for their biggest test of the season against the No. 2 Oregon Ducks.

The Washington Huskies pulled out an upset over No. 8 Stanford on Thursday night. Here was some reaction from the Cardinal players and coaches.

The Washington Huskies pulled off quite the upset on Thursday night in front of a national audience, stunning No. 8 Stanford by a score of 17-13. While the win was huge for the UW football program, it was equally deflating for a Cardinal team that entered with high expectations.

Following the loss, the Stanford players and coaches had to reflect on the showdown in Seattle. Here are what a few of them had to say. All quotes courtesy of The News Tribune.

Here is head coach David Shaw and his take on what the Washington defense did that made them so successful.

"No, everybody has wrinkles every game that they do differently, but I thought we did a good job of seeing what they were, but the bottom line is that we get to third downs we have got to convert.

And as for what went wrong with Stanford's offense in the game.

"A combination of them playing really well and us not playing well, we didn't play well enough to win. We didn't make the throws we needed to make, we didn't make the catches we need to make. We didn't sustain our blocks in the running game as long we should have. We got outplayed tonight."

Quarterback Josh Nunes weighed in on the crowd and atmosphere at the stadium. Nunes was playing the first road game of his career.

It was a great environment. We need to step up and prepare for it. There were a lot of third down failures.

And here is linebacker Trent Murphy, who came away with a big interception and touchdown return that was a momentum changer for Stanford.

"Biggest thing is disappointment, because I know we could have played better than that, we should have played better than that, but this will kind of drive us further, we've just got to keep chopping wood and it will take care of itself."

The Huskies will enjoy their win through the end of the week before returning to practice. The club makes a road trip to Oregon next weekend.

The Washington Huskies scored 14 unanswered points to shock the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal, 17-13, on Thursday night.

Huskies wide receiver Kasen Williams scored on a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Keith Price with 4:53 remaining in the fourth quarter to take the lead. The Cardinal attempted to mount a final drive but it ended on an interception by the Huskies' Desmond Trufant on a 4th and 4 with 1:46 remaining.

The Cardinal had to watch the Huskies celebrate an upset 12 days after the Cardinal had an upset of their own against the USC Trojans.

After almost three quarters of offensive inactivity outside of three field goals total, a pick-six by Cardinal defensive lineman Trent Murphy started a string of points that ended what was a game of defensive struggles.

After Murphy's touchdown, the Huskies answered with a Bishop Sankey 61-yard touchdown run to make it 13-10 at the closing of the third quarter.

Sankey finished with 144 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown and Cardinal running back Stepfan Taylor finished with 75 yards on 21 carries. Price (177 yards) and Cardinal quarterback Josh Nunes (152 yards) both struggled completing passes all night but Price was able to make the one play to give his team the win.

The win breaks a four-game losing streak for the Huskies against top 10 teams.

Box Score Hero: Sankey finished with 144 yards on 20 carries and one 61-yard touchdown. In a game filled with defense, Sankey still came away with numbers.

Rankings Ramifications: The Cardinal will definitely fall out of the top 10 but how far is yet to be seen. They could be in the late teens or early 20s when the rankings come out next week.

Did They Cover?: We're going to go ahead and say ‘no'. Those who picked the Cardinal have upside down smiles right now.

The Washington Huskies trail No. 8 Stanford 6-3 at halftime. The Cardinal added a late second quarter field goal to take the halftime lead.

The game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter and remained tied until Stanford was able to put a drive together at the end of the second half. The Cardinal reached the Husky 10-yardline, but Washington's defense was able to hold Stanford to just a field goal.

The Huskies have limited Stanford to just 134 first half yards. Stepfan Taylor entered the game averaging 112.6 yards per game, but was limited to 46 yards on 11 carries in the first half. The Washington defense did a good job in the first half of getting off the field, allowing Stanford to convert just 2-of-9 third down conversions.

While the Husky defense played well, the Washington offense struggled in the first half, gaining just 138 total yards. Keith Price completed 8-of-18 passing attempts for 76 yards. Bishop Sankey had a strong first half, gaining 63 rushing yards on 10 attempts. Kasen Williams is the only Husky with more than one catch in the game, Williams caught five first half passes for 61 yards.

Stanford got on the board first with a field goal on its second offensive possession, but Washington was able to add a field goal of its own two possessions later. The Huskies' field goal was set up by a leaping 35-yard reception by Kasen Williams. The play occurred on a third down with Williams just able to get his foot in bounds.
