The Oregon State Beavers have completed another impressive upset of a ranked opponent this week, beating the 19th-ranked UCLA Bruins 27-20 on Saturday afternoon. This win comes just one week after the Beavers beat then-No. 13 Wisconsin 10-7 at home.

Quarterback Sean Mannion and strong run defense led the way for Oregon State on Saturday. The Beavers usually need a strong performance from Mannion to win, but the ability of the Beavers' defense to limit UCLA's impressive rushing attack may have been the difference-maker.

Entering the game as the fifth-best rushing offense in the nation, the Bruins looked entirely ordinary against Oregon State, rushing 28 times for just 72 yards. Running back Jonathan Franklin, who had rushed for 541 yards combined in the first three games of the season, was limited to just 45 yards on 12 carries by the Beavers.

Mannion was similarly impressive for Oregon State, completing 25-of-36 passes for 384 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Like the Bruins, the Beavers often struggled to move the ball on the ground, but Mannion helped to keep the offense moving through the air.

After having their season opener against Nicholls State postponed, the Beavers are now 2-0 this season with a pair of victories over ranked opponents. After going 3-9 last season, Oregon State appears to be much improved this year.

The Oregon State Beavers are leading 24-10 over the 19th-ranked UCLA Bruins entering the fourth quarter of Saturday afternoon's game. The Beavers are once again shutting down the offense of a ranked team just a week after beating then-No. 13 Wisconsin 10-7.

After a strong start, Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion had some mixed results in the third quarter, but he was ultimately able to expand Oregon State's lead back to 14 points. Overall, he's completed 23-of-33 passes for 331 yards, two touchdowns and one interception through three quarters.

Oregon State's run defense has been a key part of Saturday's effort, though. Coming into the game, UCLA had the fifth-best rushing offense in the entire nation, but the Bruins have rushed for just 77 yards on 23 carries against Oregon State, an average of 3.3 yards per attempt.

The Oregon State Beavers have expanded their lead to 17-10 over the 19th-ranked UCLA Bruins going into halftime on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Bowl. The Beavers are trying to ride a strong performance from quarterback Sean Mannion to their second consecutive victory over a ranked opponent.

Mannion has looked as good as ever against UCLA, completing 15-of-22 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns. Markus Wheaton is the Beavers' leading receiver with five catches for 117 yards and a touchdown, but Brandin Cooks is right behind him with three catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Oregon State's defense, meanwhile, has bottled up the Bruins' rushing attack so far. UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley has completed 10 of 15 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown, but the team has combined to rush 18 times for just 46 yards, an average of 2.6 yards per carry.

Seeking a second consecutive upset, the Oregon State Beavers are leading, 3-0, over the 19th-ranked UCLA Bruins through the first quarter on Saturday afternoon. With quarterback Sean Mannion and the defense playing well, a major road victory could be in the works here.

Mannion has looked good so far, completing 10-of-15 passes for 122 yards. He nearly added a 50-yard touchdown pass to those numbers, but it was called back on a penalty. Six different receivers have already caught passes from Mannion on Saturday, so he's doing a nice job of distributing the ball against the Bruins.

Oregon State's defense has been superb so far, holding UCLA to just two first downs in the first quarter. One of those first downs was the result of a penalty, too, so the Beavers have generally done a very strong job of limiting UCLA's offensive attack.

The Oregon State Beavers have a chance to climb into the rankings with a victory over the No. 19 UCLA Bruins. SB Nation's Oregon State blog Building the Dam has a post up detailing some of the keys to making that happen, and one of the things multiple commentators point to is the need for touchdowns over field goals:

The Beavers' offensive efficiency simply needs to improve; scoring 10 points while gaining 350+ yards won't get the job done this week. For this to happen, Trevor Romaine needs to find some consistency, because the game could easily come down to 3 points....The offense got the ball up and down the field against Wisconsin, but once they got over midfield they had more trouble with third downs. To beat a very potent UCLA team the Beavs need to put up more points on the board and then means finishing drives.

There's a lot more in the full post, including keys to the game on defense and thoughts on UCLA's defense, so don't miss it.

For more on the Beavers, head over to Building the Dam.

The Oregon State Beavers play their first Pac-12 opponent of the season on Saturday as they head to Pasadena to take on the No. 19 UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl.

The Beavers are riding high after topping the No. 13 Wisconsin Badgers 10-7 in their season opener last week after their Sept. 1 matchup with Nicholls State was postponed. They'll be looking to take out a ranked opponent for the second-straight week and crack the top 25 for themselves.

A key factor to Oregon State's success will be the play of quarterback Sean Mannion. He completed 62 percent of his passes for 276 yards and a touchdown against a stout Badgers defense last week, and will need a similar effort against the Bruins if they want to pull the upset on the road. They'll also have to figure out how to slow down UCLA running back Johnathan Franklin, who leads the nation with 541 rushing yards through three weeks of the season.

After opening as an 11-point underdog, the Oregon State Beavers are now a 7.5-point underdog to the UCLA Bruins, according to various oddsmakers on OddsShark.com.

Due to their season opener against Nicholls State being postponed, the Beavers (1-0) have only played one game this season, a 10-7 win over Wisconsin.
UCLA (3-0) has beaten Rice, Nebraska and Houston this season en route to a No. 19 national ranking. The Bruins' offense has been electric, with quarterback Brett Hundley throwing for 827 yards and eight touchdowns and running back Johnathan Franklin rushing for 541 yards and three touchdowns.
